While she's correct in that having Treville accept the post would have been the best solution from the very start, he knows that Treville would have been uncomfortable and there's no reason to think Rochefort still wouldn't get his claws into the King. "If he did take up the position, would you still have aimed yourself so high as King's mistress?"
As willing as Athos is for a second chance, there's still a bitterness there.
